The 5th of July

Our impromptu vacation. It began with an overnight campout in the snoqualmie pass where we froze our buns off, but still managed to have a great time. The kids ate a zillion marshmallows and tripped and fell in similar quantity.  The next day we were off to Seattle, (slightly dirty, but grateful), where it was sunny and breezy — the perfect temperature.  Lunch at Mama Mia’s and haircuts all around made for a fabulous day, ending with a great dinner with friends, and a stewed fruit to be revisited. Seriously people, stewed fruit is uh-mazing.  I’m addicted.

Sometimes life seems so perfect, so idyllic, and then in one moment it becomes a nightmare.  Before leaving on Monday, we tried to go to breakfast at Easy Street (It’d been so long!  So overdue!  The chorizo! The tatooed waitresses!)  But apparently Everyone and their dog (literally, there are lots of dogs lounging outside) goes to Easy Street, the day after a holiday.  So we regrouped, aka pouted, and went for coffee at Ladro.  But the line took like 20 minutes, and the coffee was gross, and a little burned.  By this point, it’s 10am and none of us have eaten and ALL of us are whining and yelling at each other.  So we mad dash to grab some pastries, sooo not what I was hoping for, and I frantically buy some chocolate milk for the kids –thank you to the man at Husky Deli for literally pouring me a glass of chocolate milk, out of the carton.  I was that desperate.  None of us spoke to each other for a good hour after that, not unless you count screaming and crying kids in the back seat.  But I don’t count that at all.

I am seriously lucky.  I have the best family in the world, and I am thankful.
