Today you turned five. A landmark birthday, full of delight and excitement. In the past year you started putting your shoes on the right feet, writing your name and wiping your own butt. It’s been a pretty big year. So, today we celebrated. You bowled (not bowel-ed) with abandon, rosy cheeks forming from the constant flurry of activity. You ate candy, cookies and cake to your hearts delight. Although the day started bad with peeing your pants at preschool, we salvaged it. It’s not your fault you got your dad’s bladder and pension for peeing your pants at an advanced age. You will be potty trained someday (probably after your brother.)
It’s funny how similar and different we can be. Your dad’s bladder, your mom’s love for Kit Kat’s. I think the latter is a bigger win. Your unique love of Everything is refreshing, pushing me to love life more. Sometimes you just gotta blow up a bunch of balloons in the car and laugh, something I wouldn’t ever have done without you and your dad around. You are everything and nothing of what I expected in life. I am constantly in awe of you. From your tantrums to your excitement, you do it all with abandon. I am so lucky to have you as my daughter.
