the unbeknownst end of summer

in Recipes, family outing, owen

Last Sunday we went to Greenbluff to pick apples.  If I had known this was going to be the last great day of summer, I would have stayed there all day!  It was so beautiful, sunny and warm.  I picked a bunch of apples and pulled Owen around in a wagon. It was actually pretty heavy with all those apples and a twenty pound baby.  I had this vision of my plucking apples down from the tree and placing them in my wood basket in all it’s glory, but it was more like a workout that included bench pressing apples and a baby.  I made this applesauce, which was good but I don’t think I cared for the orange flavor which was pretty heavy.  It proved to be fairly painful peeling all those apples, leaving me wishing for a fancy apple peeler, you know those things you really never need except once a year.  Luckily I still have a whole crate of apples destined for a much plainer sauce, and lots of hand cramps to look forward to.  Check out my pumpkin. Delish.

Katherine - I peek in on your blog now & again. You always make me laugh out loud! I love your honesty and take on life. I have to say, if this is the “fattest” you’ve ever been, you’re the kind the rest of us hate!! :) And, you do look hot in your skinny jeans - way to go. Believe it or not, I have one of those apple-corer-peelers, and you MUST borrow it before your next batch of applesauce. I have to search to find it each fall, but it is always worth it…
