I’m pretty sure these folks slept though their history classes, if they even went to school. And as a Social Studies teacher, I’m trying not to take it personally!

I live in DC and was there for this protest (as an observer). It is difficult to put into words how proud I was to be there with fellow Americans who have the right to be there in protest of the elected and to see Americans take action, albeit a little too late most of the time. I believe action should be at the polls. Out with incumbents. I was there with a Chinese scholar who was enthused and shocked by the spirit and liberty of the people marching. Yet, it was hard to relate to some and I was mortified by those that I am politically aligned with on paper who were holding up some offensive signage. Their signs were sometimes offensive and sometimes very inaccurate. But what is not being mentioned here nor in most blogs I have seen are all the very appropriate, well thought out, respectful signs…which was 90% of them. Most of them stuck to the issues and were respectful of the President. I believe in lower taxes, more states rights, etc…but some of these voters are ridiculous and have therefore wounded if not killed their own efforts with off collar humor. When the unions came to town to protest Bush I think you would have been utterly shocked by their signs as well…but again, it was a few, not the many. I would not align President Obama with Hitler or any other dictator, but I would say I disagree with his policies and I would say that was a majority of the people marching.
