Push pin

Addy, Addy, Addy. Today she melted down at bedtime. And I mean all out melted DOWN. We had to manhandle her to get her pajamas on while she was screaming, “you’re hurting me!” And yes we were actually trying to kill her, by putting her to bed. You see it’s not really her fault. She just had such fun day. First she went to church with Andy’s parents, where she got to see “my girls” who are her second cousins. The sweetest little girls. They came home and pretty soon after went down to riverfront park to play in the fountain splash pad, they fed ducks (which apparently is banned now, so says the four year old passerby), they rode the carousel (*Khoa the exchange student rode too, how cute), slid down the enormous radio flyer slide, and had a giant ice cream. You can imagine how hard it was for her to leave. She threw the biggest tantrum even the grandparents couldn’t coax her out of it. They say she wanted to lay her head on Nana’s shoulder the whole way home. I don’t doubt that.

Things continued into the toilet when she got home. I successfully bribed her out of a second tantrum by giving her chocolate milk - score one for me. Things were ok until after dinner. It’s my fault really, I wasn’t paying attention to the fact that she went in nana’s room to watch tv and proceeded to fall asleep. You might think that is good news but you would be sorely mistaken. You see she had no jammies on and no diaper. Oh yes, she’s 4.5 years old and still wearing diapers (cloth) at night. The girl has a tiny bladder and sleeps like a rock. By the time I woke her up at 715pm she had already peed on their bedspread.

Which brings me back to the start of this story. We had to walk ALL the way downstairs past nana (tears), to get pjs on (more tears), and then put on a diaper (insert screaming and thrashing).  I adore addy. She is so much fun. I think it took me a long time to figure her out. She is a very emotional kid. When she is happy you KNOW she is happy and it is pretty natural that she expresses the opposite emotions with equal magnitude. Although it is severely trying when she is upset, I wouldn’t have it any other way. She is just a unique kid. She loves everyone she sees and claims them all as her friends.

*Khoa (pronounced kwah) is from Vietnam, he’s a senior in high school at St. Georges. He’s the sweetest kid ever. Addy is constantly talking to him. “Oh hey Khoa,” she says.

**Christine-who’s-real-name-is-not-Christine, the new exchange student, comes tomorrow. Yes there are like 15 people living here.  Good thing Kelsey’s 5lb cat, Push Pin, just moved out, we really are saving some space now. We miss you pushy, which is big of me to say since I rarely like animals. Or as addy says in her I’m-talking-to-animals-voice, “OHHH HIIIIIII PUSH.”

I am feeling you. FEELING YOU, girl. I have one who explodes and loses all ability to reign in feelings/body movements/words/or hideous whining sounds when exhausted at the end of the day. Gotta love it.

Katherine, what’s the deal? Do we own the same model? Where do we get replacement parts?

Ha. I keep asking the same thing.
