Oh today, our final day. We started the day pretty laid back and headed to walk around shops. We took addy to FAO Schwarz, looked at random fountains and a plethora of toys. Might I add that addy is amazing and never once asked for a toy. What does that say about us? Probably that we never buy her anything.
We then went to the Empire State Building, which is a requirement of first time visiters, I think. We paid the exorbitant fair and headed up the 86 floors. We got to the top and andy opened his bag and said, “where is the camera?” He almost crapped his pants and I felt like I was going to pass out. On the way to the empire state building we had taken a cab, for the first time, and Andy had left it in the back seat. I tried to look at the view with addy but I was preoccupied and lightheaded and addy was freaking out. We headed back down to meet up with andy who was trying to find our camera. Our 40D camera with our rented $1000 lens! After calling the bank and getting the info on the transaction- trying to find out the number of our taxi by tracing the credit card charge. I went to sit and mourn at starbucks while andy did some more phone calls. This is new York after all. There was no chance in hell our camera was alive any longer.
While Andy was frantically making calls, apparently a terrified mother had become separated from her son right on fifth ave. and was frantically screaming his name while strangers helped track him down. It definitely brought into perspective that a camera is just a thing, really nothing more.
Long story short, Mr. Singh is our best friend and whoever was honest enough to turn in the camera to him restored our faith in humanity. He brought us our camera back and we gave him a hefty tip. I prayed so hard that God would grant me a favor. Now I guess I have to go to church again. Or maybe I just proved that whole wish fulfilment theory…
We recuperated by taking a nap before our friend Rachel came. We went out to dinner and a stroll at central park, then settled in for some awesome tv, including but not limited to best/worst celebrity plastic surgery, the hills, friends, and sex and the city. Looking forward to tomorrow morning.
