NYC on crack

in family outing

So, apparently we are a little crazy. We landed last night after a long day of traveling and carbohydrate consumption. A fun challenge indeed to get a four-year-old and two huge suitcases up stairs (by myself) and on the airtrain, then the subway, up some more stairs and finally into the apartment where we are staying. The apartment is great, a cheap place to sleep and it even has kids toys and movies. We get to pretend like we are real new yorkers.

Today we had a late start, gratefully, before grabbing some starbucks for breakfast. We went to central park to let addy play, the weather was sunny and warm. After a stop off at H&M we headed to The Met. It was at this point that I realized, painfully, how annoying it is to have a 4-year-old at an art museum. Addy was like a bipolar kid hopped up on crack. At one point she was insisting I stay behind while she go look at paintings and find andy. Reasoning with her was like banging your head against a wall. It all culminated when a walked out the exit to rain. Addy kept crying over and over “I’m getting all wet!” In the end we survived it - all thanks to the spongebob popsicle. We probably have to be more mindful of her fatigue level.

You might be asking “why in hell would you take a kid to new York??” Maybe we are asking the same thing too, but we can’t complain too much. We will make the most of it and hopefully someday experience the sans kids version of NYC.

Do you eat burgers? Do you love them? Then you must go to The Burger Joint (at Le Parker Meridien Hotel) 118 W 57th St. (b/w 6th & 7th Ave.). The hotel is super fancy, don’t get scared, just keep walking towards the neon buger light!

Tina! We are staying right across the street and went there for lunch today. Thanks for the recommendation! We never would have found that place. So funny the entire lobby of that posh hotel smelled like hamburgers… tasty, tasty hamburgers.

Any more awesome recommendations??

If you are liking the hamburgers, you can also try the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park (Madison Ave. and E. 23rd) or on the Upper West Side (366 Columbus at W. 77th). If you go to the park, there are public sculptures and a good view of the Flatiron Building. Blackberry Custard on Wednesdays! AND The whole shack is wind-powered! Also, the Brooklyn botanic gardens/zoo in Prospect Park. Our friend Thyra’s parents did the giant topiaries in the zoo! Also, http://newyork.timeout.com/ to find events happening tomorrow!
